( Relationships are better fostered when one party believes they have something to gain from the other party. Our goal may lead to us needing to develop something that we can offer in exchange to someone else.

I believe that the Enemy won't be ... with a group that's looking to achieve alliances. They have nothing to gain from unknown sources. Ensuring that what we have to offer is valuable enough to not turn down will be important, as it may reveal them rather quickly. )

[Unfortunately, Lexa doesn't know what that may be. There's a sense in the vagueness of her speech that that sort of thing is outside of her wheelhouse.]

( They've already integrated themselves among one of the factions. Why would they risk an unknown factor? )

[Lexa doesn't see it as bait, so much as remaining as strong as possible. They are bait regardless: as it's been neatly outlined, they have no chance of winning this, so they have to show themselves worthy of an alliance.]

( It depends. We might end up pretending to offer something they actually want and there goes our plan, right?

This sucks. How do you fight shadows? )

[The answer comes all too easily.]

( Though the clearer answer is to make it impossible for there to be shadows.

Our group has already ruled out that option. )

( We can still be shadows. Some of us. The rest can be distracting lights . . . or something. This metaphor is getting away from me. )

( The importance of shadows is that they are able to move freely, only appearing when someone pays attention to them.

We can't treat this as nothing more than a diplomatic excursion. )
