( She woke up a while ago. We were talking about - how I got some money? So I asked if she wanted something and she told me to get her something pretty. I don't know what she'd like, though. I thought it'd be diamonds but she said no. )

[ halp. ]

[adamance]

( Diamonds are generic and hardly worth the attention people give them. ) [It's not surprising that she agrees with Angel on that. ( We'll go to the shopping district to find something for her. )

[It's not an offer. No "should we go." Instead, they are going. As simple as that.]

[ It's what he wanted, so he makes no comment about it - instead he'd whine if she said no. But if diamonds aren't worth the attention, why do they get it so much? People are weird. ]

( Okay. Cool. Meet me at the entrance of the Bearings. )

[adamance]

[There is a sense of affirmation, and then she proceeds to head to the entrance of the Bearings. The good thing about this world is that she assumes that once they start searching, they will find precisely the right thing that Angel would like. Consumerism is something that Lexa has adjusted to since becoming a Host, but at least this world is better for it than the last.]

[ And there he is, arms crossed, shaking his leg impatiently. He doesn't look all that appreciative of Lexa's help - he looks reluctant, in fact - but she's here and he's determined to behave around her for it. ]

So where are we going?

[adamance]

[Fortunately for Petre, Lexa comes from a culture in which everyone has resting pissed off faces, so him looking less-than-pleased barely fazes her. Naturally, their previous conversations have told her what to expect from him.]

There are some stores I found that cater to her aesthetic more than mine. I remember where they were, even if I didn't acquire anything from them. Much of the jewelry there is more simplistic, but also more to her tastes. [Simply put: they are gothic-type stores, or this world's version of them. She projects an image of a memory of one of the stands of jewelry at him, though the memory comes with a hint if "that is not my thing." It is, decidedly, Angel's thing from what she's observed.]

[ They're interesting to watch through her mind, and not really what Petre would have guessed. He really doesn't know the first thing about pleasing his friends, not through normal means; he just knows about human greed for gold and precious stones, gluttony for elaborate meals, etc, etc.

He apparently has quite a bit to learn. ]

Okay. Whatever, that's fine. I just wanna make her happy.

[ He follows Lexa where she goes, unaware of how revealing that sentence was. ]

So you guys went to that place together?

[adamance]

No. I pay attention to her. [This simple string of words may be innocuous, but at their heart, there is still a sense that they are nothing if not condescending. Still, that actually isn't her goal: it just comes out that way, with a hint of barely concealed judgment.

But then, it's Lexa. What's new there?]

Have you asked what makes her happy?

[ Yeah, he's offended at first. But the first second of a glare turns into something else immediately. ]

... Do you just creep into her mind all the time or something? Are you a stalker?

[ Petre. That... that is rich. ]

She says I make her happy.

[ Not a lie. But also not the only truth? Uhm. ]

So I'll give her something that makes her think of me.

[adamance]

We spend time together outside of each other's minds. She teaches me technology, and I train her to fight. [It is possible to have a relationship with someone that is not creepy is what she's trying to say. Truthfully, it hasn't occurred to her to try to pry into Angel's mind.]

And what do you like that she might like?

[inflori]

[ No idea what a non-creepy anything is. ]

... I dunno, we ate out together, we ate a bunch of weird stuff. She liked that. I can't just give her food though, you don't keep food forever.

[adamance]

Are you only hoping to gift her something just this once?

[It sounds as if he is, so it's good to check.]

[inflori]

Uhm. I guess? For now, anyway. [ Why does this have to be so difficult. ] Can't you just point at something for me.

[adamance]

I will, but I believe it's possible that you're overthinking this.

[Or he'll just get her a million of the same things but in slightly different forms, which wouldn't surprise her at this point.]

How am I overthinking it? It's a pretty direct thing to me. You point it out, I buy it, then I give it to Angel. Bam.

[adamance]

You do realize that you're using me to pass off something as your own idea.

[inflori]

[ And the twist on his features is very, very unpleasant. ]

How the fuck is this your idea. I'm the one who wants to give her something, I just don't know what yet.

[adamance]

Not the act. The gift itself.

Don't tell me you wanna give her something, too.

[ I wanted it first. >:I ]

No. I'm not accustomed to giving without expecting something in return, and many know that. I'd prefer not to give up that belief, but I'm willing to help you.

[To a degree, she is just being difficult.

Somehow, it's so easy to be when he's involved.]

[ He can't possibly imagine why!! ]

Okay, fine. So what do you want in return.

[adamance]

Nothing except for your patience. You're very reactive.

[And overly brash. Giving advice is not the same as giving something of physical value.]

[inflori]

[ It's really no surprise that he wants to react to that immediately. Tell her something along the lines of I'm totally patient, you're just being annoying, or something equally useless. Even he can recognize that would just be proving her right, though, so his mouth opens and shuts quickly. ]

Fine. Can we go now?

[adamance]

[Really, the fact that he doesn't react is a bigger victory than if he did react. That means that she managed to get him to behave.

Then again, if it had gone the other way, yes, she would have said that he proved her point.

Sometimes there is no winning with Lexa.]

Yes.

[The shopping trip is going to be five hundred times smoother than this semantics bullshit.]
